The Grand Tour travelling tent arrives in Nashville, Tennessee where Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May attempt to save the world’s coral reefs.

Jeremy Clarkson broke down in tears as he and co-hosts Richard Hammond and James May brought 16 years of studio presenting together to an end in the Season Three finale of The Grand Tour.

The trio will leave their famous tent for the fourth season of the Amazon Prime show to instead focus on producing a run of road trip 'specials'.

The final episode focused on the impending end of production for the Ford Mondeo, and following the end of a film at Lincoln Cathedral, the three reminisced about their near-two decade career together.

'It's very sad, and it's not the only British motoring institution that's coming to an end. We are,' Clarkson said, breaking down – Clarkson's daughters, who were in the audience were also shown in tears. 'This is not just the last in the series, the show as you know it is actually ending – with the track, audience, us three, and really badly-fitting jackets every week. This is the last one.'

'I tell you what though, we haven't half had some laughs.'

'Well we do have some good news, we're not stopping,' he added, responding to a plea from an audience member to not stop. 'We'll stick around. The thing is, the show as you know it is ending, and that's very upsetting for us.'

Hammond added that they couldn't stop making the show because they'd 'have to get jobs'.

Clarkson and Hammond first hosted together in the first series of the rebooted version of BBC's Top Gear in 2002 alongside motoring journalist Jason Dawe, who was replaced by May for the second series.

The trio quickly grew to be hugely popular internationally and at its height, the Clarkson, Hammond, and May-fronted Top Gear was said to be watched by 350 million people globally. It also evolved into a hugely successful touring arena show, which visited 22 countries between 2008-2015.

They left the BBC in 2015 following Clarkson's involvement in a 'fracas' with a producer and signed a three-series deal with Amazon later that year.

'The truth is Amazon loves us, we love Amazon so we'll carry on a bit,' said May.

The upcoming fourth season of the show was confirmed late last year amid rumours of the show's demise. The fourth season will comprise of road trip special episodes, such as the Colombia and Mongolia films featured in Season Three.

'There is still so much of the world we haven’t been to,' said Hammond.

Which Clarkson responded with: 'So many people I haven’t insulted!'

'So many cars he hasn’t crashed,' May added, pointing to Hammond who was nearly killed twice in huge crashes while filming Top Gear and The Grand Tour.

'Although this [the studio] is gone, The Grand Tour goes on,' said Clarkson. 'So while it's not goodbye from us, it is goodbye from this. Anyone want to buy a tent?

The Grand Tour Season Three finale also featured a montage of the three presenters' best bits from not just their time on Amazon Prime Video, but also on Top Gear.

The Grand Tour Madagascar

Speaking to The Sun newspaper, for which he is also a regular columnist, Clarkson said that his quick exit from the BBC show four years ago added to the emotion of the final Grand Tour studio show.

'It’s a wrench. Even though The Grand Tour goes on, it’s a wrench to say goodbye to the studio element of it for sure,' he told the tabloid. 'The truth of it is, I think, I never got the chance to say goodbye to Top Gear. One minute I was there and one minute I wasn’t. It was like [I] did the show and then never did another one.'

'[I] Never said goodbye. Never got a gold watch. Never got a retirement speech. Nothing. So this was almost as though we were saying goodbye to Top Gear as well. That’s why it was so emotional for me.'

The Grand Tour Lyrics

Step right up
Come on in
If you'd like to take the grand tour
Of a lonely house
That once was home sweet home
I have nothing here to sell you
Just some things that I will tell you
Some things I know will chill you to the bone
Over...

It does sound like a blackout drunk wife beater being walked out of his house by the cops. The 'When she tore my world apart' could be when she told him she was sleeping with someone else and the 'Oh, she left me without mercy
    Taking nothing but
Our baby and my heart' sounds like a 'Look A-Hole it's not your kid!'.

  2. I thought he might have killed his wife, and maybe even the baby too, and the tour may have been for the police or media after his wife went missing. I was very suspicious that she left all her things... but I probably watch too much Dateline. I thought he might be just focusing on the good parts of their marriage or exaggerating how great it was later. And saving the baby for the end was for dramatic effect, but it made the baby seem like an afterthought... so maybe he thought the baby wasn't his? I told a friend this theory but she thought his wife died while pregnant or in childbirth. I now think her theory is more likely than mine.

She left for some reason. And left in a big hurry. Maybe she didn’t feel the same way he did about their relationship or marriage.

Those people that insist that the song is about this guy's wife leaving him in a breakup instead of a sudden, cruel and merciless death, along with their child, probably believe that in, 'He Stopped Loving Her, Today', he did stop loving her that day and didn't die.

I think he lost his wife and child probably through childbirth or an accident. From the song you could tell they were so much in love so divorce is out of it.

The song indicates sudden death of the wife and child, either birth or accident,
Ot sad and painful, i have been listening to this song, for long many times, i thought i was divorce but no it was death and indeed she went forever thats death, and normal death, cause the Lord also knows they had a good thing going there so that cannot be divorce.

I think his wife killed the baby and committed suicide. Sad but makes perfect sense.

Gone forever indicates no possible reconciliation from any divorce. She and the baby both died during childbirth... “and now she’s gone forever”...

While this song could be about either a divorce or sudden death.. my take on it is lean more towards sudden death. The song writer is inviting guest in his home to take a tour of 'this lonely house that once was home sweet home' the whole song connotes that there was love in the home..she 'whispered oh I love you' The song continues to say 'Oh Lord we had a good thing going here' You can still feel the love is still present even after ' she tore his world apart' She left me with out mercy, taking nothing indicates a sudden and unexpected departure. Go back and listen to the song again guys.

I always thought the song was about a woman leaving her husband and taking the baby with her in the middle of the night. Starting over with someone new, maybe someone rich so that's why she leaves everything behind.

I believe it’s about the wife leaving her husband in a heated rush the last line of the last verse says “taking nothing but our baby and my heart” if your wife dies giving birth you would never say the words “she took our baby” it wouldn’t happen add that with him say “she tore my world apart” and “she left me without mercy” in the same verse it makes it seem like she left him

I have to wholeheartedly agree with the meaning told by Tyler Mahan Coe, Country music historian, who stated that the song was all about a pregnant wife dying.

The more I listen to this outstanding song, the more I feel his wife and child died suddenly. I’ve been a police detective for years and as the previous person said, she left all of her personal belongings. Normally a woman who leaves her husband will take her clothes, and the babies clothes. What an awesome song it is to inspire such thought from so many people.

Obviously heartbreak over desertion. The theme and tonality of the song doesn't imply grief due to death. 'She left me without mercy' is defining. And 'chill you to the bone' implies infidelity. She was so heartless and determined to run away with her new lover she left all her belongings except her baby. Period.
